Hey, there! My name is Abigail Smith, but I like to go by Abi, and you can use any pronouns for me. I’m a queer and neurodivergent therapist passionate about working with queer and neurodivergent individuals and relationships. I received my undergraduate degree in psychology and health psychology from the University of Texas at Arlington in 2019, and my graduate degree from Southern Methodist University in 2023 where I specialized in trauma and queer-affirming therapy. I have clinical experience working with autism, ADHD, bipolar, queer individuals and relationships, mixed neurotype relationships, kink and poly relationships, complex trauma, shame, anxiety, and depression. I take an intersectional, affirming, and social-justice oriented approach to therapy, pulling from queer theory, Narrative Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and Dialectical Behavior Therapy. I believe that the therapeutic relationship is egalitarian and collaborative, that you are the expert in your life, and that people are not problems – the problem is the problem and together we can find better ways of dealing with it.

Outside of client work, I like engaging in my special interests – reading queer sci-fi and fantasy, making art, becoming emotionally attached to fictional characters, napping with my three cats, dancing (badly) to stimmy music, and taking my daily hot girl walk. I love spending time with my chosen family and friends, and info-dumping with my partner.

I am an LPC-Associate under the supervision of Beck Munsey, PhD, NCC, LPC-S (Texas License: 63561). What does this mean? This means that I’ve completed my graduate degree, including seeing clients in a family clinic for practicum and at a private practice for internship, and am now working full-time as a therapist while logging hours towards independent licensure.
