Hi Everyone!I grew up in a unique situation, living as a mostly closeted queer goth kid in rural Northeast Texas, a child of a deacon in a fundamentalist evangelical church, and being treated both as an outcast among my peers and as someone whom people came to for support and an alternative perspective. In many ways, my training as a counselor began then. I went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Rehabilitation Services at the University of North Texas, where I developed a better understanding of human services and disability while working in a neuropsychology clinic, where I learned more about testing and assessment. After graduation, I immediately pursued a graduate degree in Rehabilitation Counseling. More recently, I have completed most of the coursework required for a Ph.D. in Counselor Education and Supervision before having to step away to meet the needs of my child.
Over the last 9 years of experience as a counselor, I have developed a personal approach to counseling that draws heavily from Adlerian, Narrative, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and have certifications both as a rehabilitation counselor with expertise in working with individuals with disabilities and as a geek therapist, incorporating themes from anime, literature, and gaming into therapeutic work. Some of the work I have been most proud of is a Dungeons and Dragons group I ran for neurodivergent teens to help build social confidence and flexibility, as well as its use in working with a family to help build more positive relationships and communication.
When not working, I enjoy playing games (TTRPG, video, and board games), spending time with my child and loved ones, and being part of the local goth, poly/kink, and queer communities in Dallas.
